Mini LED backlighting technology, by integrating more LEDs and implementing local dimming, enhances various display performance aspects such as contrast and brightness, giving LCD monitors new vitality. Entering 2025, Mini LED backlighting technology is showing some unique trends, both technologically and in application, potentially ushering in a new era of Mini LED backlighting 2.0.

Mini LED backlight technology upgrades; Hisense and Samsung launch RGB light sources . With the increasing maturity of the industry chain and frequent application by downstream terminal manufacturers, display products equipped with Mini LED backlighting solutions are becoming more and more common. However, simple Mini LED backlighting technology is no longer a competitive advantage for display products. Therefore, by integrating more LEDs and dividing the display into more zones to create more detailed and higher contrast high-end displays, this quantity-driven approach has become the main means for manufacturers to enhance product competitiveness.

However, major display manufacturers have begun to focus on improving the performance of Mini LED backlight technology, starting with the light source. At CES 2025, Hisense and Samsung successively launched their latest Mini LED backlight technology solutions, integrating RGB chips as the light source to emit white light, replacing the solution of using blue light plus phosphor to excite white light.

Specifically, Hisense unveiled the world's first 116-inch RGB-Mini LED TV, which boasts the world's first RGB three-dimensional color control LCD display technology and the world's first RGB light and color simultaneous control image quality chip.

It is understood that RGB three-dimensional color control LCD display technology has enabled the display to change from traditional black and white backlighting to RGB multi-primary-color backlighting, and from single light control to simultaneous light and color control. This makes the colors of displays equipped with Mini LED backlighting technology more realistic, delicate, and the details richer and clearer. Previously, Hisense stated that TVs equipped with RGB-Mini LED are expected to be launched in March of this year.

Coincidentally, Samsung also unveiled an RGB Micro LED TV at CES 2025, winning the CES 2025 Innovation Award. Samsung stated that this is the world's first RGB Micro LED TV, achieving the first full-color gamut local dimming, the lowest power consumption, and the thinnest design among consumer displays.

Unlike traditional LED TVs that use only blue light as a backlight, the new solution employs Micro RGB (red, blue, and green) backlighting technology, which uses smaller LEDs to emit light individually. This results in more vibrant colors while reducing power consumption by 20%.

Samsung has revealed that its RGB Micro LED TVs will be available in 75-inch 4K and 85-inch 4K models, as well as a first-ever 98-inch (8K) version, with the new products planned for release this year.

In addition to Samsung and Hisense, media reports previously indicated that TCL may also launch an RGB-LED backlit TV this year, featuring its previously released omnidirectional color gamut technology and combining it with RGB-Mini LED technology.
