To promote the digital transformation and high-value applications of the display industry, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) of Taiwan announced a collaboration with AU Optronics' subsidiary, Daqing, a leading supplier of display solutions. Utilizing AI-powered virtual-real fusion technology, they will develop emerging display products for smart entertainment, smart retail, and smart mobile business applications, creating differentiated markets and generating new value experiences that transcend virtual reality (VR).
Chang Shih-chieh, Director of the Electronics and Optoelectronic Systems Research Laboratories at the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Taiwan, stated that to assist the industry in developing smart display solutions and expanding their application areas, ITRI has long been committed to technological research and development and cross-domain innovation. It has successfully integrated smart display, AI recognition, and human-computer interaction to develop AI virtual-real fusion technology. In terms of application results, ITRI has launched the "MyView AI Fish Tank," equipped with the world's first transparent display virtual-real fusion system. Combining cameras and AI gaze recognition technology, it can accurately detect the direction of visitors' gaze and the location of aquatic creatures, displaying the corresponding information in real time on a transparent display screen. This system is being used in the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology.

In addition, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) of Taiwan has collaborated with AU Optronics (AUO) to develop an "AI Smart Window Screen Navigation System," which has been implemented on the Kaohsiung Asia Harbor Smart Ferry. This system transforms traditional ship windows into transparent Micro LED displays, combining GPS positioning and passenger eye tracking to provide real-time navigation information for attractions along the Kaohsiung Harbor. AUO, a leading global display solutions provider with strong panel R&D and manufacturing capabilities, will strengthen its technological and market advantages through this collaboration with its subsidiary, Datang, achieving a synergistic effect greater than the sum of its parts and creating new business opportunities in the display industry.
AU Optronics CEO and General Manager Ko Fu-Jen stated that AU Optronics focuses on next-generation displays and smart integrated applications, possessing capabilities in system integration, optoelectronic design, and precision manufacturing, and is committed to creating high-value-added display solutions. As display applications continue to evolve towards intelligence, immersion, and scenario-oriented technologies, the "AI Virtual-Real Fusion Technology" developed by ITRI will help accelerate technology commercialization, develop more innovative application scenarios, and thereby enhance corporate competitiveness and revenue growth. AU Optronics is actively leveraging its profound display technology to create smart display solutions, expanding into industries such as smart retail, enterprise and education, and healthcare, driving new blue ocean opportunities in smart scenario applications, enhancing interactive experiences across diverse scenarios, and actively expanding into overseas markets.
The "AI Virtual-Real Fusion Technology" boasts three main features. First, image recognition and sensing technology captures environmental images through a lens, allowing the AI system to instantly identify people, objects, and location information for intelligent analysis and interactive applications. Second, a high-definition transparent projection module utilizes a high-transmittance transparent projection display solution, ensuring a clear and visible background and allowing virtual images to blend naturally into the real scene, enhancing visual immersion. Third, a virtual-real fusion interactive system combines AI and image sensing to achieve virtual-real fusion on transparent displays, recognizing user actions and responding instantly, creating a novel human-computer interaction experience.
