On November 18, Tianma Microelectronics held its Global Innovation Conference (TIC 2025) in Wuhan, Hubei Province, to explore the future of display technology with colleagues from upstream and downstream of the display industry.
Among them, Micro-LED, hailed as the ultimate display technology, will occupy an important position in the future display industry. As a panel manufacturer, Tianma has taken the lead in promoting the development of Micro-LED technology in large-size displays, automotive displays, transparent displays, wearables, AR and other application fields through the glass-based LTPS technology route with a forward-looking vision.
Despite the numerous industrialization challenges facing Micro-LED technology, at the TIC 2025 conference, Tianma, along with upstream chip manufacturer Sanan Semiconductor, research institution TrendForce, and other industry partners, unanimously expressed optimism about the development prospects of Micro-LED, believing that the technology is on a fast track to maturity and has great potential for future development as it continues to improve.

Tianma Launches Borderless Giant Screen, Working with the Industry to Advance the Industrialization of Micro-LED <br /> From an application perspective, the technological development of Micro-LED is still concentrated on large-scale displays, and Tianma also regards this application as one of the key directions for the implementation of Micro-LED technology.
At the TIC 2025 conference, Tianma launched the world's first all-laser mass transfer TFT-based 108-inch 4K Micro-LED borderless giant screen. With its advantages of high brightness, high contrast, low reflectivity, and seamless splicing below 20μm, it will drive the Micro-LED display to continue to develop in application markets such as home theaters and commercial displays.

Driven by domestic display companies like Tianma and international manufacturers, Micro-LED large-format displays have gradually entered a larger consumer market, and the optimization of cost and yield of Micro-LED technology has become the key force behind this development.
Chiu Yu-pin, Senior Vice President of Research at TrendForce, pointed out that from an industry chain perspective, the upstream chip segment is key to cost reduction in Micro-LED technology. Over the past two to three years, the price of 6-inch RGB Micro-LED COCs has decreased by more than 50%. The application of chip miniaturization techniques has increased chip production, further driving cost reduction.

However, the miniaturization of chip size brings a series of challenges, such as reduced external quantum efficiency (EQE), low wavelength uniformity, and low chip yield. But upstream companies are actively addressing these technological challenges.
Huang Shaohua, Senior Vice President of Sanan Semiconductor, mentioned that the company is solving the technical challenges of chip miniaturization through the introduction of domestically produced MOCVD equipment, innovations in epitaxial growth, sidewall passivation and surface treatment, and process optimization. In the future, the performance of Micro-LED chips will be further improved, driving the continued reduction of chip costs.
Zhou Bo, head of Tianma's Micro-LED production line, said that as a panel manufacturer, Tianma has also developed mixed BIN technology + De-mura algorithm compensation technology to address the brightness and wavelength uniformity issues caused by the miniaturization of Micro-LED chips. This technology improves chip uniformity to over 90%, thereby reducing chip costs.

In addition, Tianma has optimized the cost and yield of Micro-LED through a series of process technologies such as laser mass transfer, laser bonding, side wiring, multi-layer side processing, high-precision seamless splicing, and surface flatness, and finally perfected the production of high-quality Micro-LED displays.
With a series of technological optimizations, Tianma's Micro-LED displays are rapidly iterating. Zhou Bo revealed that Tianma will soon launch a new generation of Micro-LED display products, at which time product quality and yield will be significantly improved.
Targeting the automotive display opportunity, Tianma is accelerating the penetration of Micro-LED technology . In addition to large-size displays, Tianma considers automotive displays another key focus of its Micro-LED technology strategy, and has already begun research and development of related Micro-LED technologies, launching a variety of solutions.
At the recently concluded China International Import Expo, Tianma once again showcased several Micro-LED automotive transparent display products, including an 8.07-inch head-up display, an 8.07-inch transparent low-reflection display, a 9.38-inch adjustable transparency display, and a 7.05-inch ultra-narrow bezel transparent display. These products are designed to meet the complex display requirements of automotive environments with features such as ultra-high brightness, high resolution, high transparency, ultra-thin structure, and ultra-low reflection.

Tianma Micro-LED Automotive Display Technology
Qiu Yubin believes that Tianma is right to make automotive displays one of the key areas of Micro-LED technology development. Micro-LED is highly compatible with automotive displays. Its three core characteristics of deformability, efficiency and durability are highly matched with automotive displays, which has created many opportunities for automotive display applications, such as irregularly shaped displays, AR-HUD, hidden displays, and extendable displays.
Furthermore, as the only display technology capable of integrating sensing components onto a single backplane, Micro-LED holds immense potential for future applications in automotive displays. By integrating an ambient light sensor, Micro-LED displays can continuously optimize brightness based on external light, which is crucial for energy efficiency in automotive displays. Therefore, Micro-LED is expected to become a standard technology for automotive displays in the future.

Tianma 7-inch Micro-LED Automotive Standard Product
Facing the abundant opportunities in automotive displays, Tianma has accelerated its technology research and development and production. In July of this year, it successfully lit up a 7-inch Micro-LED automotive standard product, accelerating the penetration of Micro-LED technology in the automotive field.
Micro-LED holds immense potential for diverse applications, and Tianma is accelerating its mass production progress.
Micro-LED is hailed as the "ultimate display" technology, not only for its ultra-high display performance, but also for its vast development potential in diverse display applications.
Qiu Yubin pointed out that the application of Micro-LED technology has unlimited potential. In the fields of watches, AR glasses, car headlights, and even optical communications, Micro-LED can bring greater value enhancement. The rich applications will also support the continuous expansion of the Micro-LED industry chain and drive the overall output value of the Micro-LED industry.
Recognizing the rich application potential of Micro-LED, Tianma invested 1.1 billion yuan in 2022 to launch the construction of its G3.5 generation fully automated mass transfer production line. By the end of 2024, the production line had achieved full process integration, and in 2025, it began small-batch production of standard display panels. Tianma's construction of China's first G3.5 generation production line covering the entire Micro-LED process has fully prepared it for the current and future development of the Micro-LED industry, comprehensively promoting the development of Micro-LED towards application expansion and industrialization.
The continued maturation of the technology and the expanding scope of its applications give Tianma great confidence in its continued development of Micro-LED technology. Tianma believes that 2026 will be a crucial year for Micro-LED technology, bridging the past and the future. In the future, Tianma will continue to spare no effort in promoting the mass production of Micro-LED technology and working with partners across the industry chain to create a new chapter in its development.
