Samsung Display reportedly began developing Micro LED displays for wearable devices in 2023, and Samsung Electronics plans to launch the first related product by the end of 2025. The main advantages of Micro LED displays in wearable devices are high brightness and high efficiency.
Several companies, including AU Optronics (AUO), are developing wearable Micro LED displays, with AUO already in commercial production. Apple is also developing this technology; although it canceled its main Micro LED wearable display project in early 2024, it is reported that Apple may still be pushing forward with related research.
Garmin and luxury watch brand TAG Heuer are also developing their first Micro LED smartwatches. Both companies will reportedly use AU Optronics' wearable Micro LED technology. The first devices are expected to be available later this year. (Translated by Irving)
