On May 9, Seoul Semiconductor announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2025.

In the first quarter of 2025, Seoul Semiconductor achieved revenue of 239.2 billion won (approximately 1.23 billion yuan), a year-on-year decrease of 1% and a quarter-on-quarter decrease of 11%. Regarding profits, its operating profit continued to be negative; adjusted EBITDA was 4 billion won, with an adjusted EBITDA margin of 2%. Seoul Semiconductor's performance decline was mainly due to macroeconomic fluctuations and seasonal demand. However, Seoul Semiconductor is actively laying the foundation for future profit improvement through strict cost control and optimized production efficiency.

Despite short-term profit pressure, Seoul Semiconductor continued to maintain a high level of R&D investment in the first quarter, with R&D expenditures reaching 26 billion won during the reporting period, increasing the proportion of sales revenue to 11%. The company is focusing on developing next-generation products such as SunLike natural light technology, WICOP automotive lighting solutions, and LBL low blue light display technology.
During the reporting period, Seoul Semiconductor's automotive business unit performed exceptionally well. Seoul Semiconductor stated that its WICOP technology has been widely adopted by the world's top ten automakers and is used in over 100 models. Automotive lighting sales achieved an annual growth rate of 20-30%, becoming a significant driver of the company's growth.
In the general lighting business, Seoul Semiconductor's self-developed SunLike light source technology, with its characteristics close to the natural light spectrum, continues to expand its application in the global commercial, industrial and residential lighting markets. At the same time, the technology has passed clinical validation in the field of healthy lighting and can be applied to scenarios such as comfortable vision, myopia prevention in children and sleep aid.
The IT Display Business Unit continues to develop ultra-thin, low-blue-light next-generation display products based on LBL technology and the WICOP architecture of Mini LED.
Looking ahead to the second quarter of 2025, Seoul Semiconductor expects its revenue to be between 260 billion and 280 billion won, representing a quarter-on-quarter increase of 9% to 17% and a year-on-year decrease of approximately 1% to 8%. The company anticipates that its revenue and profitability will gradually improve as demand recovers in the automotive, IT display, and lighting businesses.

Summary <br /> Against the backdrop of a persistently sluggish market environment in the past few quarters, the automotive business segment has become the main driver of Seoul Semiconductor's revenue growth and stability, becoming one of the key highlights of Seoul Semiconductor's earnings report. Seoul Semiconductor stated that, driven by the automotive business segment, its sales continued to remain stable, and it continued to expand its market share in the global LED sector. (Text: Irving)
