E Ink Holdings, a major e-paper manufacturer, has announced a new e-paper touchpad solution for laptops, utilizing Intel's Smart Base technology, Innovation Platform Framework (Intel IPF) ecosystem, and AI Assistant Builder. This solution creates a low-power touch display interface for AI PCs, enhancing the user experience.

The e-paper module introduced in the laptop's touchpad area not only retains the intuitiveness of the original touch operation, but also expands the interactive possibilities of the second screen. With the assistance of Smart Base, Intel IPF, and AI Assistant Builder, it can realize real-time edge AI applications, such as displaying commonly used shortcut keys, system reminders, and generative AI text or image content excerpts, game strategies, customized AI tasks, etc. on the laptop's interactive keyboard area cover.

For example, users can see weather conditions, memos, meeting transcripts, or other displayed information. The laptop's personalized casing appearance can also be displayed when it is powered off.

Because electronic paper offers a comfortable paper-like visual experience, low power consumption, long battery life, and outdoor visibility, it is suitable for auxiliary display applications in mobile devices such as laptops.

E Ink is continuously developing innovative application products for various fields using e-paper technology. Through the development tools and reference architecture provided by the Intel Smart Base ecosystem, E Ink is able to create thin and light modules that better meet the design needs of AI PC products. This allows e-paper to be seamlessly integrated into the touchpad area of notebook computers, achieving a user experience that combines energy saving, clear display, and innovative interaction, said Hung Chi-mao, Vice President of E Ink's Business Center.
