Samsung and LG Electronics announce preliminary results for Q2 2025

Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics recently released their preliminary results for the second quarter of 2025. Details are as follows:

Samsung Electronics
In the second quarter of 2025, Samsung Electronics achieved sales of 74 trillion won (approximately 388.87 billion yuan), a year-on-year decrease of 0.09% and a quarter-on-quarter decrease of 6.49%; operating profit was 4.6 trillion won (approximately 24.173 billion yuan), a year-on-year decrease of 55.94% and a quarter-on-quarter decrease of 31.24%, falling short of the market's previous expectation of 6.69 trillion won.

In terms of quarterly operating profit, this is the lowest since the fourth quarter of 2023 (2.8247 trillion won); compared with the second quarter of previous years, it is the lowest record since the second quarter of 2023 (668.5 billion won).

Samsung Electronics has not yet released specific performance figures for each division, but it is expected that the operating profit of the company's Device Solutions (DS) division, which is engaged in the semiconductor business, will reach around 1 trillion won.

Operating profit forecasts for other business units are as follows: Mobile Experience (MX) and Network Business Unit: approximately 2 trillion won; Display Unit: 600 billion to 700 billion won; TV and Home Appliance Unit: 400 billion to 500 billion won; Automotive Electronics Unit: 300 billion to 400 billion won.

LG Electronics
LG Electronics reported consolidated revenue of 20.74 trillion won (approximately RMB 108.989 billion) and operating profit of 639.1 billion won (approximately RMB 3.358 billion) for the second quarter of 2025, representing year-on-year decreases of 4.4% and 46.6%, respectively.

LG Electronics stated that both its revenue and operating profit declined year-on-year this quarter. Consumer sentiment in major markets recovered slowly, the business environment remained unfavorable, and changes in the global trade policy environment led to increased tariff costs and intensified market competition.

During the reporting period, LG Electronics' home appliance, B2B, and HVAC businesses performed well, maintaining healthy profitability. However, the company's media and entertainment solutions business was under pressure in the quarter due to slowing demand, rising LCD panel prices, and increased marketing expenses resulting from intensified competition, with profitability also affected by rising costs.

In the second half of 2025, LG Electronics will focus on maintaining the fundamentals of its business and pay more attention to "quality growth" areas represented by B2B, non-hardware, and D2C direct-to-consumer.

For its media and entertainment solutions business, LG Electronics plans to further solidify its leading position in the high-end OLED TV market by launching new wireless products, while also expanding into new content areas such as gaming and digital art to enhance the competitiveness of its webOS platform.
