On December 3, HC SemiTek added the concept of "AI glasses".
According to data provided by Tonghuashun, HC SemiTek was selected for the following reasons: On April 17, 2024, HC SemiTek disclosed on the interactive platform that the company's micro-LED technology continues to collaborate with well-known domestic and international consumer and technology companies to promote the implementation of various terminal products. The performance and yield of large-size wafers continue to improve, and the company has passed the certification of strategic customers. Micro LED pixel devices have passed market application testing and have begun small-scale mass production, with large-scale sales expected in 2024. Furthermore, the micro-display screen used for AR near-eye displays has achieved dynamic image display on a 0.12-inch 3.75-micron screen, and will be commercialized in 2024.
The AI glasses market continues to heat up . This year, the concept of AI glasses has repeatedly sparked a frenzy in the secondary market. As wearable devices integrating AI technology, AI glasses have advantages over traditional glasses in terms of multi-functional integration, portability, and interactivity.
For example, Rokid, a domestic AR glasses company, released Rokid Glasses, a Micro LED AR glasses co-branded with Bolon, on November 18th. These glasses are equipped with Alibaba's Tongyi Qianwen multimodal model, supporting functions such as phone calls, AI Q&A, object recognition, photo-based quizzes, multilingual translation, navigation, and health reminders. To ensure the smooth operation of these AI functions, Rokid Glasses uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR platform, which is optimized for power consumption and heat dissipation, making it suitable for lightweight smart glasses.
In addition, in September of this year, US tech giant Meta and domestic smart terminal company Meizu also released AI+AR glasses.

Meta's first AR smart glasses, Orion, are equipped with the AI assistant Meta AI, capable of sensing and understanding the wearer's surroundings, providing users with more real-time information, and anticipating and meeting their needs. To clearly visualize AI information, Orion uses silicon carbide lenses to eliminate optical artifacts and stray light, while also increasing the refractive index. Furthermore, its display optics solution combines Micro LED and waveguide technology to achieve a 70° field of view, providing a wider visual experience.
Meizu has released the StarV Air2 AR smart glasses, which feature a JBD Micro LED screen and provide an all-day AI experience. It supports real-time translation of 13 languages, quickly activates the AI assistant for note-taking, acts as a meeting assistant to perform speech-to-text conversion, minutes summarization, intelligent prompting, and information reminders, and also has AR navigation capabilities.

In addition, domestic startup Ewen Technology has launched the lightweight and stylish AR glasses G1, which uses a dual-lens JBD 0.13-inch VGA single green Micro LED microdisplay and supports functions such as note-taking, translation, navigation, prompting, and notifications. Furthermore, by connecting to third-party large models, G1 can perform simple AI question-and-answer sessions.

It's worth noting that these AI glasses all share the common feature of employing a combination of AI and Micro LED high-definition display technology. According to TrendForce analysis, AR devices, due to their lightweight and miniaturized nature, are considered an ideal platform for AI. The characteristics of Micro LED light sources can meet the requirements of AR devices for high brightness, small size, and low power consumption, thus making it a crucial technological reserve for AR devices. If a full-color Micro LED solution can be achieved through vertical stacking or color conversion, it is expected to become the best technological solution for future AR glasses.
According to the latest research from TrendForce, looking ahead, with breakthroughs in technological bottlenecks and the increasing maturity of applications in automotive displays and full-color solutions for AR glasses, the market value of Micro LED chips is expected to grow to $489 million by 2028. In the future, the combination of AI and Micro LED is expected to drive even greater leaps in display technology.
