Recently, the Google DeepMind website opened a testing channel for Project Astra. Google will release this prototype glasses equipped with AI and AR capabilities to a select group of users for further testing.

The AR glasses prototype reportedly runs on the Android XR operating system, a new platform developed by Google for visual computing to support the development of devices such as glasses and headphones. Features of the new glasses include instant translation, location memory, and the ability to read text without a phone.

Regarding the display system, the AR prototype glasses are reportedly equipped with a Micro LED microdisplay provided by Raxium.

According to available information, Raxium was founded in 2017 and focuses on developing single-chip integrated RGB Micro LED displays for smart devices such as AR/VR. In 2022, Google announced its acquisition of Raxium, reportedly for $1 billion.

Google stated that there are currently no plans to release this AR glasses prototype to consumers. However, Google envisions the future form of its AR glasses, hoping to offer consumers a variety of stylish and comfortable AR glasses that can seamlessly integrate with other Android devices. AR glasses equipped with Android XR will be able to utilize the powerful features of Gemini with a simple press, providing functions such as navigation, translation, or message summaries, without the need for a smartphone.
