February 10 - According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple has cancelled a project to make AR glasses that connect to Macs, but is still actively working on developing standalone AR glasses, though it may take more time to refine them.

Gurman previously revealed that Apple originally planned to release a product resembling ordinary glasses, with a built-in display and requiring a connection to a Mac. However, the project was recently terminated.

While this news may seem disappointing, it is not actually so; only the AR glasses project that connects to the Mac has been cancelled.

According to Gurman, Apple's hardware chief, John Tenus, doesn't want another product failure, so the company has decided to proceed cautiously with the development of standalone AR glasses. Apple's standalone AR glasses will be closer to the $10,000 (IT Home note: currently approximately 72,941 RMB) prototype showcased at Meta last year. Apple is still developing standalone AR glasses, but it just needs more time.

Sources say Apple's Vision Products Group is still developing key underlying technologies for the product, such as the screen and chips. The newly appointed head of the Vision Products Group, Tenus, doesn't want the product to fail, so he will proceed cautiously.

Although Apple's standalone AR glasses are still under development, they are at least 3-5 years away from market launch. Vision OS has laid the foundation for AR glasses, and hopefully Apple will deliver a truly interesting product.
