April 2 - According to Bloomberg, tech giant Meta is planning to launch a high-end version of its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses series, featuring a built-in display, and is expected to launch as early as the end of this year.

The new smart glasses, codenamed "Hypernova," will be able to run applications and display photos. Users can control them via gestures and capacitive touch areas on the sides of the frames. Bloomberg reports that the screen is only visible in the lower right corner of the right lens, and is best viewed when the user's gaze is downward. When the device is activated, a main interface appears on the screen with icons arranged horizontally, similar to the display of the Meta Quest headset.

The report also mentioned that compared to the currently available models, Hypernova will be equipped with a higher-performance camera and will continue to practice and deepen the product concept of "keeping AI chatbots by your side."

Regarding pricing, Bloomberg predicts that Hypernova will cost over $1,000, possibly even reaching $1,300 to $1,400 (approximately 9,439 to 10,165 yuan at the current exchange rate). In comparison, the current starting price for Meta's smart glasses in collaboration with Ray-Ban is $299 (approximately 2,171 yuan at the current exchange rate).

In terms of product positioning, Meta targets the Hypernova in the "mid-range" smart glasses market, aiming to compete with similar glasses with text display capabilities (such as Rokid Glasses) that have emerged in large numbers at CES (Consumer Electronics Show). Meanwhile, Meta's Orion glasses, currently under development, will retain more advanced augmented reality technology.

Despite its mid-range positioning, Hypernova's high price may be related to its bundled sale of a "neural" wristband controller codenamed "Ceres," which was originally designed for the Orion glasses.

Furthermore, Bloomberg also revealed that Meta has begun developing the next generation of Hypernova products, codenamed "Hypernova 2". The Hypernova 2 will reportedly feature dual displays, and the company plans to launch it in 2027. (Image source: IT Home)
