Recently, Kosutami, a well-known Apple insider, revealed that Apple's next-generation Vision headset may undergo a major design change, aiming to achieve a thinner and lighter body. Reportedly, to achieve this goal, Apple plans to use titanium instead of traditional aluminum for the battery casing and certain structural components, while also introducing a new midnight blue color scheme.

It's worth noting that this new device may be named "Vision Air," indicating significant improvements in portability and user experience. Although titanium's density (approximately 4.5 g/cm³) is higher than aluminum's (approximately 2.7 g/cm³), its superior specific strength, fatigue resistance, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature performance give it unique advantages in lightweight design. Specifically:

High specific strength: Titanium materials can meet strength requirements under the same load by using thinner cross sections or less material, effectively offsetting density disadvantages and even achieving further reduction in structural weight.

Enhanced durability: Titanium's fatigue and corrosion resistance properties eliminate the need for additional reinforcement or protective layers during the design process, thus contributing to thinner and lighter product designs.

High-efficiency thermal management: The high-temperature performance of titanium eliminates the need for bulky insulation measures, directly reducing the overall weight of the thermal management system.

Furthermore, Kosutami revealed more details about the new device. He pointed out that in addition to using titanium, the next-generation Vision headset may also undergo a deeper hardware restructuring, including a new interface design similar to the Lightning connector, reducing the number of pins from 12 to 8, and introducing a stylish midnight blue color option.

Based on earlier leaks, Apple plans to release a new generation of Vision Pro in the second half of this year, featuring an upgraded M5 chip. Furthermore, reports suggest that Apple is also developing a more affordable version of the headset, which is likely the aforementioned Vision Air. (Source: Sina VR)
