On November 19th, Republic of Gamers (ROG) released two new gaming phones, the ROG 9 and ROG 9 Pro. As products that focus on gaming experience, they are designed and configured with hardware and software that are more geared towards gaming and esports.

Both the ROG 9 and ROG 9 Pro feature an AniMe Vision Matrix Display on the back, with the Pro model boasting 648 programmable Mini LEDs. This new Matrix Display supports Chinese characters, as well as a wider variety of patterns and information, and allows for user customization. Furthermore, by using the shoulder buttons, users can play classic pixel-style games such as pinball, Snake, airplane shooting, and parkour on this Matrix Display.
To enhance the user's gaming experience, the ROG 9 series is also equipped with the new Snapdragon 8 Ultra chip, which improves GPU performance by 40%; it adopts the new Matrix Liquid Cooling Architecture 9.0, and provides users with additional innovative cooling accessories such as the AeroActive X Pro and ROG Glacier Liquid Cooling Shell.
In terms of screen, the ROG 9 series features a 6.78-inch OLED flexible flat screen, supporting a 185Hz high refresh rate, a 720Hz touch sampling rate, and a peak brightness of 2500 nits. The ROG 9 and ROG 9 Pro are priced from 4999 yuan and 6299 yuan respectively.
What other mobile phones use Mini LED technology?
Mini LED technology is currently mainly used in LED direct-view displays and as backlighting for televisions and monitors. However, in mobile phones, Mini LED technology is not yet directly used on the main screen; instead, it's used on the back of the phone to provide illumination and pixel display functions, enhancing the phone's personalized design.
As the predecessor to the ROG 9 series, the ROG 8 also features an AniMe Vision display with 341 programmable Mini LEDs. The screen comes pre-loaded with more than 20 animations and supports users to create custom GIFs up to 254x128 pixels.

In addition, the Nothing brand's previous smartphones, Nothing Phone and Phone (2), also incorporated a Mini LED light strip design on the back cover, manufactured by Refond Optoelectronics. Among them, the Phone (2) product divided the Mini LED light strip into 33 lighting areas.

Users can more precisely control the LED array and dynamic function displays on the back cover through their mobile phone system. Furthermore, users don't need to look at the main screen; they can access information such as volume, countdown timer, food delivery status, ride-hailing time, and charging status through the Mini LED interface.
