On July 18, Reality Labs, the VR division of Meta, published a blog post showcasing a virtual reality (VR) headset with a wider field of view, smaller size, and lighter weight.

The official statement said that the original intention of designing this VR headset was to extend the user's wearing experience by improving wearing comfort and expanding the field of vision.

The normal human field of view (FOV) is 200-220 degrees, while the Meta Quest 3's field of view is only 104 degrees. Therefore, wearing it for a long time will cause fatigue within the limited field of view.

This prototype device boasts a 180-degree field of view, meaning users can be more immersed in VR experiences. While other headsets on the market offer similarly wide fields of view (such as the Pimax VR headset), they are often quite bulky. Meta's new design may represent a good balance between AR glasses and VR headsets, making it the lightest VR headset closely resembling the human eye's field of view. (Source: IT Home)
