On August 18, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman reported that Meta's first smart glasses with a display screen will be available in September, starting at $800 (approximately 5,748 yuan). The initial expected price for the glasses was over $1,000, a change partly due to the company accepting lower profit margins to stimulate demand.

Previously, multiple media outlets and Gurman himself reported that Meta planned to launch a smart glasses device called Hypernova this year. This device features a small monocular head-up display (HUD) and will be controlled via finger gestures using its long-developed sEMG neural bracelet, which is expected to be included with the product. Reports indicate that this small HUD will be used to display time, weather, and notifications; assist with composition and photo previews; provide progressive navigation; display captions and translations of real-world speech; and offer the option to display Meta's AI responses in text format instead of audio.

According to The Information, the Hypernova weighs approximately 70 grams with the HUD added, compared to 50 grams for the Ray-BanMeta glasses.

In July of this year, renders of the Hypernova and its wristband were discovered in early firmware of the Meta public server. One of the renders featured engraved lettering that seemed to reveal the product's name: Meta Celeste. In April of this year, Gurman stated that Meta planned to price the Hypernova at "over $1,000, possibly as high as $1,300 to $1,400."

However, in his latest weekly newsletter, Gurman revealed that Meta has "found a way to cut the price to around $800 for consumers." He explained that this price adjustment stemmed in part from Meta's decision to accept lower profit margins in order to stimulate demand. However, Gurman pointed out that $800 is just a starting point, and various styles and lens options, such as prescription lenses, will "quickly push up" the price.

Meta Connect 2025 will be held on September 17th, and Meta is expected to launch Celeste at the event, with pre-orders opening in October. In April of this year, Gurman reported that some Meta employees were working overtime to ensure the HUD glasses shipped on time. (Source: IT Home)
