Tokushima, Japan and Regensburg, Germany — Nichia Chemical and Osram have entered into a long-term collaboration in the field of intellectual property (IP). Nichia Chemical President Hiroyoshi Ogawa and Osram CEO Aldo Kamper signed a comprehensive cross-licensing agreement covering thousands of patented innovations in LED and laser technologies.

The agreement grants the two companies patent rights to gallium nitride LEDs and laser components, and for the first time covers multiple LED packages and LED modules, such as matrix LED headlights. This move aims to strengthen the two companies' industry-leading intellectual property protection for their customers.

The new agreement covers research and development achievements from the past 15 years.
