Founded in 2021, Thunderbird Innovations has a team with extensive experience in near-eye display optical design, self-developed AI algorithm models, and multimodal human-computer interaction.

In 2023, Thunderbird Innovations launched the world's first consumer-grade true AR glasses, the Thunderbird X2, which is touted as the industry's first mass-produced binocular full-color Micro LED + waveguide AR glasses.

At the CES 2024 exhibition at the beginning of the year, Thunderbird Innovation showcased the X2 Lite, which features a dual-eye full-color Micro LED + waveguide solution to support full-color display with high light transmittance and high brightness in all scenarios.

To accelerate its XR business expansion, Thunderbird Innovation signed an agreement with Jiaxing Nanhu High-tech Zone in September for an optical R&D and manufacturing headquarters project, which is expected to achieve an annual production capacity of 1.05 million sets of optical engine modules. In addition, on August 8th, the company signed an agreement with Wuxi City to invest 1 billion yuan in Huishan Economic Development Zone to build an XR complete machine R&D headquarters, with a planned annual production capacity of 1 million XR devices.

Himax Technologies: Announces 400,000-nit LCoS microdisplay and AR prototype
On December 27, Himax Technologies announced that it will showcase its next-generation proprietary ultra-bright 400K nits color sequential front-illuminated LCoS microdisplay solution at CES 2025.

It is understood that the 400K nits brightness and typical power consumption of only 300 mW ensure the microdisplay's performance in bright light environments.

Furthermore, by integrating 2D waveguides, this display further enhances its ability to deliver clear visuals. In addition, this miniature display boasts numerous advantages, such as its compact size, occupying less than 0.5cc of space.

At the event, Himax will also showcase a proof-of-concept (POC) AR glasses prototype equipped with a color sequential front-illuminated LCoS microdisplay. Through the use of collimating lenses and 2D waveguide technology, the brightness reaching the eye can exceed 1000 nits.

It's worth noting that in addition to focusing on the development of LCoS technology, Himax Technologies is also paying attention to the development of Micro LED technology. In October of this year, Himax Technologies' recently led "3D 130-inch UHD Micro LED Display Development Project" was approved by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs, with a total budget of NT$1 billion (approximately RMB 220 million) and subsidies of approximately NT$150 million (approximately RMB 32.91 million).
