On July 31, Samsung Electronics announced its second-quarter results for 2025.

Samsung Electronics' revenue is reportedly comprised of four main segments: Display, Mobile Experience (MX), Network, Visual Display & Digital Appliances, and Semiconductor. The breakdown is as follows:

Display Business
Samsung Display, which is responsible for the display business, reported revenue of 6.4 trillion won (approximately 33.088 billion yuan) and operating profit of 0.5 trillion won (approximately 2.585 billion yuan) in the second quarter.

Samsung Electronics stated that in the mobile display sector, revenue growth was driven by positive market response to new smartphones from major customers, coupled with sales expansion in the IT and automotive sectors. In the large-size display sector, sales of QD-OLED displays continued to grow, fueled by strong demand from the gaming market.

For the second half of 2025, Samsung stated that despite remaining market uncertainties, its mobile display business is expected to achieve sales growth driven by the launch of new smartphones from major customers. The company will consolidate its market leadership through differentiated technologies and continue to expand its business beyond smartphone displays; in the large-size display business, it will focus on ensuring a stable supply of TV panels while accelerating the market adoption of QD-OLED displays by enriching its product portfolio.

Mobile Experience (MX) and Network Services
The revenue of MX and network businesses in the second quarter was 29.2 trillion won (approximately 150.964 billion yuan), and the operating profit was 3.1 trillion won (approximately 16.027 billion yuan).

Regarding the MX business, although smartphone shipments declined in the second quarter compared to the first quarter when new models were released, revenue and operating profit both achieved year-on-year growth, driven by strong sales of the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy A series, and Galaxy tablets.

In the second half of 2025, the MX business plans to continue its flagship-first strategy for smartphone sales, focusing on foldable phones and the Galaxy S25 series, while strengthening the AI capabilities of the Galaxy A series to increase market share. In addition, the MX business will enhance the AI capabilities of tablets and wearables, expand the Galaxy ecosystem by launching new form factors including extended reality (XR) and tri-fold devices, and maintain robust profitability amid market uncertainty and rising bill of materials (BOM) costs.

The network business enhanced its profitability in the second quarter of 2025 by expanding revenue in overseas markets and improving cost efficiency, and will focus on achieving revenue targets in the second half of 2025 and restoring competitiveness by optimizing costs and securing new orders.

Visual Display and Digital Appliances Business
The Visual Display and Digital Appliances business generated revenue of 14.1 trillion won (approximately 72.897 billion yuan) and operating profit of 0.2 trillion won (approximately 1.034 billion yuan) in the second quarter.

In the second quarter of 2025, the visual display business increased sales of high-end products such as Neo QLED and OLED TVs, but profits declined due to slowing demand and increased market competition.

In the second half of 2025, Samsung's TV division plans to capitalize on peak season demand to solidify revenue growth, strengthen its high-value-added TV product line, and upgrade the viewing experience and AI capabilities. Furthermore, the division will drive steady profit growth through differentiated experiences and services such as SmartThings, Samsung Knox, Samsung Art Store, and Samsung TV Plus.

Semiconductor Business
The DS division, responsible for the semiconductor business, reported revenue of 27.9 trillion won (approximately 144.243 billion yuan) and operating profit of 400 billion won (approximately 2.068 billion yuan) in the second quarter. Benefiting from increased sales of high-value-added server memory products and major foundry customers, the division's sales increased by 11% quarter-on-quarter.

The company actively responded to server demand by expanding sales of fifth-generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM3E) and high-capacity DDR5 products, and sales of solid-state drives (SSDs) for data centers also increased. However, one-off costs such as inventory value adjustments impacted earnings.

Looking ahead to the second half of 2025, Samsung anticipates strong AI demand, driven by continued investments from major cloud service providers, which will in turn fuel robust demand for DRAM and NAND servers. (Source: TrendForce Display)
