The summer movie season (June-August) this year is very exciting. According to CCTV News, more than 60 Chinese and foreign films have been confirmed for release, covering a variety of genres such as history, suspense, science fiction, action, and animation. Among them, films such as "Lychee of Chang'an", "Nanjing Photo Studio" and "Jurassic World: Rebirth" are very popular and have attracted the attention of consumers.
Taking "The Lychee of Chang'an" as an example, the film, adapted from Ma Boyong's novel of the same name, uses a lychee to unlock the art treasures of the Tang Dynasty. LED cinemas such as Huanying Island LED Cinema Space, CINITY, and VLED have announced their screening plans and accelerated their layout, opening up multiple new LED cinemas to bring more high-quality choices for summer movie viewing.
LED cinema screens are being deployed more rapidly.
HeyLED: On August 1st, tickets went on sale at the Shanghai Huanshi Cinema Xinyao LED Store. The cinema is equipped with HeyLED movie screens from Times Huaying. It is understood that the HeyLED product line covers sizes from 4 meters to 22 meters.
VLED Cinema: On July 25th, Ma'anshan's first VLED cinema opened at Times International Cinema. The VLED cinema screen, developed by China Film Optics, currently offers a variety of sizes ranging from 8 meters to 20 meters. Since June of this year, VLED cinema screens have been put into use in cinemas in Baoding, Foshan, and other cities.
CINITY LED Cinema: On July 20th, the first CINITY high-definition giant screen cinema in Loudi, Hunan Province, officially opened at the Muyu Global Cinema Loudi branch. On the same day, over 300 viewers watched the film "The Lychee of Chang'an" and experienced the audiovisual experience. Additionally, on July 18th, the first CINITY LED cinema screen was also put into trial operation at the Zhuying·Shisangong Cinema in Guangzhou.
CINITY LED is a joint venture between China Film Technology and Aoto Electronics. It has now formed a product line layout from 5 meters to 20 meters. As of mid-July 2025, VLED has signed contracts for 65 units in the domestic market, with more than 50 units actually installed.
Huanying Island LED Cinema Space: Huaxia Leyard is also accelerating its deployment. In June and July this year, its Huanying Island LED cinema screens were successively installed in Shanghai AI CINEMAS LED Giant Screen Cinema, Yinchuan Yuecaicheng Womei Cinema, Zibo CR Mixc Womei Cinema, etc. To date, Huanying Island LED cinema spaces have been deployed in more than 20 locations across the country.
In addition to the projects mentioned above, on July 31, Changzhi's first LED movie screen, jointly created by Taihang Film and Television and Shanxi Film Company, was officially unveiled in Hall 6 of the Taihang Film and Television Luzhou Theater.
LED cinema screens illuminate the 2025 summer movie season . This series of intensive implementations is due, on the one hand, to the rapid development of the LED cinema screen market, driven by technological advancements, cost reductions, and policy support; on the other hand, it is inseparable from the active cooperation and support of content producers. For the fiercely competitive summer movie season, high-quality LED cinema screen technology has become a crucial tool for attracting audiences.
It is worth noting that, in order to fully leverage the advantages of LED cinema screens, some cinemas have turned their attention to content production.
China Film CINITY LED has released its latest film slate for the 2025 summer season, featuring 15 Chinese and foreign films produced using CINITY LED displays. Among them, Wuxi Jialai Cinema has launched an exclusive CINITY LED version of "The Little Monster of Langlang Mountain," releasing on August 2nd, to provide audiences with a superior and more immersive viewing experience.
The LED screen at the Capital Cinema Xidan branch also highlighted this feature, launching a special VIVID version of "The Lychee of Chang'an" to provide viewers with a better viewing experience.
In addition, some cinemas are exploring more immersive viewing experiences, such as introducing glasses-free 3D effects.
Taking the LED VIP theater of Taihang Film and Television Luzhou Theater as an example, naked-eye 3D content was specially launched during the summer season. Audiences can experience the shocking visual effects of stereoscopic images without wearing 3D glasses. In Hall 5 of Zhuhai China Film South 4D Cinema (Jiuzhou Road Store), Zhuhai's first VLED LED movie screen also played naked-eye 3D videos.
Currently, the summer movie season has entered its final sprint. According to CCTV News, as of 9:28 PM on August 3rd, the total box office revenue (including pre-sales) for the 2025 summer movie season (June-August) has exceeded 7 billion yuan.
