On October 16, Bloomberg reporter Gurman reported that Apple is developing a new MacBook Pro, which will feature an OLED display, a punch-hole camera, and a touchscreen. The upgraded MacBook Pro is expected to be available in late 2026 or early 2027.

Since Apple launched the M1 Pro and M1 Max in 2021, the MacBook Pro's design has remained largely unchanged, but this will change with the introduction of OLED models. In addition to the upgraded display technology, the new products will eliminate the notch, replacing it with a punch-hole camera and featuring a thinner, lighter design. At the same time, Apple has also reinforced the hinge and optimized the screen support to ensure stability during touch operation.

The report indicates that although Apple plans to add a touchscreen, the MacBook will continue to come with a trackpad and keyboard, and will enhance existing functionality through touch gestures.

It's worth noting that not all M6 MacBook Pro models will feature an OLED screen or touchscreen. According to identification information in the macOS Tahoe system, the base 14-inch model, model number J804, is expected to only have an M6 chip and lack OLED and touch functionality; while the high-end model, model number K116, features an OLED screen, supports touch, and is reportedly thinner.

With its OLED display and touch capabilities, the upcoming 2026/2027 MacBook Pro models are likely to be more expensive than the current high-end MacBook Pro models.

Regarding the supply chain, previous reports indicated that Samsung Display's 8.6-generation OLED panel production line would supply Apple. This production line uses glass substrates with dimensions of 2290*2620mm, suitable for producing products such as tablets, laptops, and monitors.

Samsung Display plans to begin small-batch trial production of its A6 production line by the end of this year and start large-scale trial production in the first quarter of next year. If all goes well, it is expected to supply OLED panels for 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros by the end of the second quarter of next year, supporting Apple's release of an OLED version of the MacBook Pro in the fourth quarter of 2026.
