On January 13 and 21, 2025, the Munich District Court in Germany issued acceptances in favor of Nichia Corporation in two patent infringement lawsuits. These two cases were patent infringement lawsuits filed by Nichia against certain automotive LED products manufactured by Malaysian LED manufacturer Dominant Opto Technologies Sdn. Bhd. ("Dominant").
The aforementioned lawsuit concerns Nichia's EP2216834 and EP3267494 patents, which protect core technologies used in the automotive lighting and backlight market to achieve high brightness, high reliability, and high efficiency.
Patent EP2216834 concerns CSP (Chip Scale Package) products, a key technology for high-brightness LEDs. This technology is particularly important for the automotive headlight and exterior lighting markets (DRL: daytime running lights, turn signals, etc.) that require high-brightness LEDs.
Patent EP3267494 relates to LED products that achieve high reliability and efficiency in the manufacturing process, representing an important technology for the automotive interior lighting and backlighting market, which in particular needs highly reliable LEDs.
Nichia's automotive lighting and backlight LEDs utilize these patented technologies to fully demonstrate their front-end benefits and advantages.

In two acceptances, the Munich Regional Court affirmed Nichia's patent infringement claims against the following two Dominant LED products; the court ordered the defendant, the German electronics parts distributor Endrich Bauelemente Vertriebs GmbH ("Endrich"), to cease selling these products, recall and destroy them, submit accounting records, and compensate Nichia for damages suffered as a result of these products.

Therefore, Nichia's claims were fully affirmed by the Munich Regional Court's decision. This decision is final and not subject to appeal.
Nichia also holds family patents for the aforementioned patents in the following countries:
Patent EP2216834: Japan, USA, UK, France, Italy, Netherlands, China, India, Taiwan, South Korea and Russia.
Patent EP3267494: Japan, USA, Germany, UK, France, Netherlands, China, India, Taiwan, South Korea and Brazil.
Nichia is committed to protecting its patents and other intellectual property rights and will take action against infringers in any country, where appropriate and necessary.
